I pride myself on being able to help a director bring a script to life with passion and vision. I feel that a Scenic Designer is first and foremost an artist who must be able to creatively and often ties abstractly build an environment for the playwright’s words; I have a dauntless imagination and I continuously push the limits of design.
I create sets that are thought provoking and filled with symbolism; each set has its own voice and adds another layer of meaning to that of the play. I choose to distill each play (and set) down to it’s strongest emotional elements to convey what cannot be said with words.
In my designs I draw upon my extensive knowledge of theatre history, art history, architectural history, period styles, furniture and furnishings. I strive to create something that evolves, that has movement; a setting that is dynamic and capable of expressing changing relationships, feelings, and moods during the course of the action.
