About Us

In 1935, we were formed as the Detroit Newspaper Industrial Credit Union, to serve people who worked in the newspaper industry. In the 1970s, we changed our name to be more inclusive of industries such as radio, television, printing, and publishing. We chose Communicating Arts Credit Union, the name most associate with our credit union.

As other financial institutions fled Detroit, we expanded our scope to help fill the financial services gap. Though we have never forgotten our roots, we have grown to include all people in our mission. Whether you live in the city or the suburbs—we know you carry the Spirit of Detroit with you—just as we do.

We changed our name from Communicating Arts Credit Union to One Detroit Credit Union, but we are still the same organization that is committed to people over profit. Our new logo represents our unity as a community of Detroiters. It encompasses both the ‘1’ and the ‘D’ on a solid line marking our unified path to financial empowerment.

The online app makes everything so convenient. And there is only a $4 monthly fee if you do not have direct deposit. I do not understand why so many negative reviews unless people are just mad they didn’t get approved for something. I pay 0 for any transactions and even transfers. I will never use a for profit bank again! Free ATM are never far and I have never waited in line here for more than 5 minutes. Ignore the negative reviews. Period.”

“The main office offers faster service thank the satellite branches. I've been a member for years now and I've only seen a long line two, maybe 3 times at the Main Office. The Highland Park branch is slow as molasses. I stopped going to that branch because more often than not, you will wait in line at least 15 mins. The East Detroit is ok. I've only been there twice, and the service was reasonable.”

“I just want to acknowledge the excellent, phenomenal, and exemplary customer service I received from Corzetta B. I was referred by a neighbor to utilize One Detroit Credit Union for my car and motorcycle refinancing needs. I must say that Corzetta exceeded my expectations. Corzetta took over my loan application after the original loan processor became unavailable. She identified a major oversight by my original motorcycle company that would have potentially cost me an extra $2000; in addition, she corrected a processing error in regards to a form, and expedited the payoff check to the motorcycle financing company that was inadvertently mailed late. I am completely satisfied by the low interest rates Corzetta was able to obtain based on my credit score, not to mention her due diligence and attention to detail. Every company should have a Corzetta she is the benchmark & standard of customer service!! Give her a raise!!”
