About Us

Will has been on Mack since 1998. Will chose Mack Ave. because he lived in the community at the time. Joel, his friend and co-worker interjected our talk and stated, it was because of him Will is a business owner on Mack Ave. Joel friend was the owner of the barber shop during the time Little Caesars was open next to them. History was made at Little Caesars: Will and Joel began to talk while they waited on their food inside of Little Caesars. The conversation resulted in Will working at Da' Barber Shop and later taking over Da' shop. They began to reminisce of the good ol’ times and agreed that the Little Caesars on Mack was the first in the City of Detroit! Little Caesars was great for Da’ Barber Shop—it brought in foot traction and traffic. Da’ Barber Shop borders Grosse Pointe, which offers good policing for the shop. Surrounding areas of Mack Ave. is where Will’s family and friends lives and implore entertainment. He’s watched family and friends leave the community just to return to the community. Cutting hair allowed him to watch young men grow up to become adults that later brought their family into the shop to experience first haircuts and good conversation. Will and Joel mentioned that there’s a vast difference between Barber Shops on Mack compared to Barber Shops on E. Warren. Clients shared that the professionalism is better on Mack. Parents can leave and have left their boys at Da' Shop to shop at Family Dollar and Aldi. Speaking of comfort in knowing kids would be safe at the shop, parents have left their kids awaiting their arrival long after the final cut. Yes, Joel and Will were ready to go home or to their next destination (no laughing).

Establishing a business on Mack has its challenges—a paradoxical one—some clients enjoy the presence of the police whereas others do not. Costly break-ins ensued the closing of Little Caesars. Will and Joel miss the presence of the big box retailer.

Longevity was the first response Will gave when asked about the'shop’s uniqueness. He’s seen a lot, done a lot and endured a lot as a business owner. Currently, Will is looking for serious Barbers that can endure the slow days, embrace the busy, and have some clientele. Overhead cost is consuming and stumping his profit –having more barbers on duty would eradicate that problem.

Barbers on Duty are: Lin, Joel and Will. Will is looking for more barbers!
